MICHELE BOUSQUET – CheckMate Ambassador, TurboSquid

Michele Bousquet

Michele Bousquet has more than 20 years of experience in 3D modeling for production, and has spent a great deal of that time writing about and teaching 3D modeling. In addition to authoring dozens of books including the How to Cheat in 3ds Max series and Model, Rig, Animate! series, Michele has been a 3D production artist at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, a 3D Graphics instructor at numerous Art Institutes in the USA, and a Senior Technical Writer at Autodesk. Michele is currently the CheckMate Ambassador for TurboSquid, the world’s leading online marketplace for 3D models, where TurboSquid’s member base of more than two million 3D artists made research on 3D modeling standards possible.

CheckMate: 3D Modeling Standards for Today’s Pipelines

3D modeling techniques continue to evolve, but no quality standards for 3D models have evolved along with them. 3D models that were considered “good” ten years ago don’t work for today’s pipelines, but what exactly makes a good 3D model today? With no clear answer to this question, 3D artists lack guidelines for creating quality models for modern workflows. To address this problem, TurboSquid surveyed and interviewed more than a thousand 3D professionals worldwide to develop universal standards for topology, texturing, and scene organization. In this presentation, TurboSquid describes the resulting standards and invites industry professionals to test them in their own pipelines and contribute to further development. Results from the recent adoption of these standards in the stock 3D arena will also be presented.
