BEING INDIE DEVELOPERS IN ITALY: JOYS AND SORROWS

Video games can be considered works of art, and if there is one country populated by artits, that’s Italy. How complicated can it be to start a software house today?

Tiny Bull Studios’ founders will guide us through the Odyssey behind the apparently simple dream of creating games: an irksome bureaucracy, fierce competitors and the infinite difficulties encountered during the development of a video game.

But also the satisfaction of creating something from scratch, the emotion seeing your own game on the Stores, the pride when reading positive reviews… Every little joy that makes you forget instantly all the sorrows and rewards your efforts.

Because making games in Italy is possible, and it’s as hard work as it is fun!

Tiny Bull Studios is an indie game developer based in Turin, Italy. Tiny Bull Studios is incubated in TreataBit, the playground for new media entrepreneurs, a project by I3P, the Innovative Enterprise Incubator of the Politecnico di Torino.

Tiny Bull Studios creates games for mobile devices and social networks, aiming to extend the development to PC, Mac and console markets. The idea was born from the video game passion of two Virtual Reality and Multimedia magisters at University of Torino, ready to conquer the market with their innovative ideas, expertise and enthusiasm.

Matteo Lana developer, game designer, zombie pirate

Matteo enters the world of video games at age 6, when receiving an 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System he is immediately hooked. His passion leads him to follow a path that will allow him to work in the video game world, until he eventually gets a Master’s degree in Virtual Reality and Multimedia in Turin. He begins to understand the complexity and beauty of what’s on the other side of a video game, how a series of 0 and 1 can create adventures and breathtaking scenery, and decides that his mission will be to give to others the emotions he feels playing. In 2012 he founded Tiny Bull Studios with Rocco, good friend and classmate.

Rocco Luigi Tartaglia developer, 3D artist, ninja shark

Rocco’s passion is born when he gets his hands for the first time on a 386 computer, and he knows what will be his destiny: to conquer the world of video games. During the degree course in Virtual Reality and Multimedia he meets Matteo, and they begin the adventure that will lead to the birth of Tiny Bull Studios. But is he really determined to pursue his dream? Seeing how he threw himself into a 12-months full immersion in order to graduate early, all the while attending the Master in Computer Graphics at BigRock, the answer seems to be “yes.”
